We all noticed last season how hush-hush Tom Ford’s Spring 2011 show was. We didn’t get pictures of the show until the November 2010 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. And even then it was a select amount of pictures of Beyonce, Julianne Moore, Daphne Guinness, Amber Valletta and other A-list models/figures who were in his show. Then there was the three minute video of the show that finally quenched our curiosity but didn’t appear until January – as in last month. However, even with all of that exclusivity and mystery, Mr. Ford is now requiring a non-disclosure agreement for his Fall 2011 show.
Is this a bit much? I mean I understand being over exposed and wanting to keep some type of wonder about your brand, but the nature of media – and fashion industry – is more instant thanks to blogs and social media. These are the people who are keeping the public in the loop so they know what to buy, why to buy and when to buy it.
But maybe Tom doesn’t see it that way. Is he right for issuing NDAs or does he need to relax?
