Mattie Memo: Serena Williams Likes Leopard

This month’s Hamptons Magazine cover girl – Serena Williams – celebrated last night at her cover party sponsored by Grey Goose. The hostess wore a lovely leopard number and it got me to thinking: Serena sure does leopard. Let’s take a look at her latest leopard ensembles. Last night, she rocked a DOLCE & GABBANA FALL 2010 RTW LEOPARD PRINT LACE MINI DRESS. And instead of her usually fantastic skyscraper heels, because of injury she rocked some CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN GOZUL STRASS FLATS. (See you can still wear Loubs if you like flats…) But leopard has been an on going theme for Serena this season. She’s taken a liking to Dolce & Gabbana’s leopard print frocks, as many celebs have. But as far as frequency is concerned, Serena is the winner. (As she usually is.) Take a look at her leopard looks.

How To Wear A Red Dress

I love, love, LOVE a red dress. I wore a red evening gown when I won Miss Liberia USA and so did two other contestants. LOL. Here’s the thing though, you have to aware of the shade, material and silhouette. A bright red like the one above may not be appropriate for church or a business meeting per se while a crimson evening may be just the right shade for a formal occasion. You have to take your body type, your complexion and the event all in consideration. But know this, wearing a red dress will always command attention. And so I salute my favorite red dresses on the red carpet within the last year.

Eva Longoria at an event in London wearing a scarlet Ralph & Russo evening gown. The satin draped silhouette really compliments her small frame. The train is dramatic which is appropriate for this red carpet evening event.

Last year at the 2009 MET Costume Institute Gala Jessica Biel donned a custom William Rast evening gown. (Just really looked out, huh?) Now, although the design is unconventional, it’s still appropriate and she wore nude satin Louboutins to make her dress really pop. It was certainly over the top, but it is the Costume Gala – the more the dramatic the better.

This look is from this weekend. Singer Mya posed for a photo session this weekend at the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel Miami Beach for Rock Media Fashion Week Miami finale. This dress gives me everything I need. It’s not safe at all. But it’s Rock Media Fashion Week. It’s not supposed to be. The hair, make up and shoes…thumbs up. (FYI, her skin looks amazing!!)

Real Housewife of New York Ramona Singer kind of shut it down at fellow housewife Bethenny Frankel’s wedding this weekend in NYC at the Four Seasons. This dress? There are no words. Aside from the bride, I think it’s safe to say she was best dressed. I like that it was a deep red. Very Crimson-esque which is wedding appropriate if you ask me.

Oh, call me biased but you know Sarah Jessica Parker can do no wrong in my eyes! (Was I the only one who enjoyed her Oscar look this year? It was Chanel…) I do like this look. I feel like everyone is still hiding in black in NYC while she busted out the white blazer and lace dress. I love the hair down and beaucoup necklaces. It works for me.

The bag? Eh. But I’m not going to hold it against her.

Kate Bosworth blew me away with this look at the Montblanc Charity event the Weinstein Company held during Oscar weekend for UNICEF. The actress wore a kaleidoscope of a Peter Pilotto dress with some fantastic satin nude pumps. Here’s why this works: it’s daring and unexpected while still effortless. The silhouette isn’t typical but when all is said and done it still has the appeal of a classic sheath dress. And let’s face it – color always gets our attention. And that’s exactly what Kate did.

Actress Amy Smart brought spring with her to an Oscar event last night when she donned a floral print strapless dress. With her hair pulled back, a rouge mouth and some gray peep toe pumps this look was really smart.

Actress Camilla Belle hosted an Oscar event sponsored by Audi and Marchesa (who she was wearing) earlier this week. I absolutely live for this dress. Feathers can go either really good or really bad and here there are done BEAUTIFULLY. And obviously the memo that “white is the new black” is still going around. Very impressive.

Jennifer Lopez made her usual strut across the celebrity orange carpet at the Miami Dolphins game on Sunday. The star, who arrived with hubby Marc Anthony and friends Gloria and Emilio Estefan, donned a long, global print dress that flattered her much. The patterned dress was a bit conservative compared to Jennifer’s usual looks, who had her hair pulled up with minimal make up as she enjoyed the game.
