Eva Mendes in DOLCE & GABBANA: Abso-freakin-lutely.
One of fashion’s biggest events was last night: The Metropolitan Museum Of Art’s Costume Institute Ball. This year’s theme was “American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity.” (The exhibit will be at the Met until August 15.) Fashion designers Michael Kors, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren all made an appearance with at least one person wearing one of their designs. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Eva Mendes, Coco Rocha, Mary J. Blige, Kate Hudson and Jessica Biel all came out dressed to the nines! Below are some of my favorite looks (and not so favorite). Without further ado ——> (more…)
Rule No. 41:A lady knows physical appearance isn’t everything. But she also knows it takes you pretty far.
A true lady is aware that while physical appearance isn’t everything, it does count for a lot. She’ll never just walk into a room and just bank on her pretty. Because she knows just being pretty is boring. She’ll walk into a room full of confidence, because she feels lively. She’ll be wearing something that compliments her body type and make sure she’s in the best shape possible according to her. Because at the end of the day she knows that when you look great, you feel great. And when you feel great you do great things!
We’ve all had that moment where we’re at an event and a photographer takes our picture. We think we look good and when we see it, we’re terribly disappointed with how the photo turned out. (I am proof of this on many occasions.) So, after some help from a friend I got some posing tips and I decided to share the wealth. (more…)
Rule No. 44:Never lose your ladylike. Not even when you’re drinking beer.
There are times where you’re going to be very casual – whether you’re on vacation, at a BBQ or watching your rapper husband perform at Coachella. But in those times, you don’t have to lose your ladylike. Above, Beyonce enjoys a beer without losing her composure or looking sloppy. I mean let’s be honest, she’s wearing some very short cut off shorts and an off the shoulder t-shirt all without being offensive. Take note. You can have a good time and be comfortable without looking desolate. There’s never a good time to lose your ladylike. Ever. Class is priceless.
“You can pay for school, but you can’t buy class.”
Rule No. 378: Dressing Like A Lady Doesn’t Make You One
Thought I’d share a little secret. Dressing yourself up in pretty frocks and a string of pearls doesn’t make you a lady. It’s all in the way you carry yourself and present yourself to the world. I could put you in a $20,000 Oscar de la Renta gown and if you’re cursing like a sailor and being inappropriate even Oscar couldn’t save you. Presence is everything. Your behavior, character and mannerisms are a constant reminder of who you are. Practice grace. We’re not all born with it. But know that just because you have a dress on doesn’t automatically put you in the “lady” category. I could give you Holly above in that lovely yellow dress or Jackie O. in some denim, a t-shirt and a scarf.
Jennifer Hudson is the new spokesperson for Weight Watchers and quite frankly, she. looks. amazing. And folks, this is AFTER a baby. Usually the LOTD is more fashion based but today it’s solely based on looks and lifestyle. You have to appreciate the new and improved Jennifer. She’s motivation for the spring/summer workout regimen. Check her out head to toe. (more…)
Beyonce in a firecracker red body hugging number in NYC. (With red shoes, too!) Perfect for her new fragrance press tour.
I love, love, LOVE a red dress. I wore a red evening gown when I won Miss Liberia USA and so did two other contestants. LOL. Here’s the thing though, you have to aware of the shade, material and silhouette. A bright red like the one above may not be appropriate for church or a business meeting per se while a crimson evening may be just the right shade for a formal occasion. You have to take your body type, your complexion and the event all in consideration. But know this, wearing a red dress will always command attention. And so I salute my favorite red dresses on the red carpet within the last year. (more…)
Last year, The Hills star Lauren Conrad got folks up in a frenzy with her multi colored nails caught in a paparazzi pic. Many people liked it and even a few LOVED it but I didn’t see anybody rock it. Now, I’m not saying that because LC did, we all should but I thought it would become a great trend that many would follow. I know I did at least. I call this look “ombre nails” because the color is supposed to go from lightest to darkest starting with you thumb (or vice versa with the pinky like Lauren.) I tried this look last summer with purple and it was quite fantastic. I’m bringing it back for the spring. Just find four like colors (pink to red, gray to black, etc.) and create a gradient look. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
