Mattie Muse: Off Balance

This week has been a whirlwind to say the least.

I’ve been to amazing events within the last two weeks held by Trina of The Baby Shopaholic and Cathy of Poor Little It Girl but this is literally the first time this week I’ve physically had time to post. With Mattiepalooza and the Style Bloggers of Color conference only 3 weeks away, it’s A LOT. (Become a member for a smokin’ hot discount.)

I know this outfit is uber chill – ripped t-shirt and jeans. Groundbreaking. As a dancer, I always loved when my t-shirts ripped. Gave you room for your body to breathe.

Am I overwhelmed? Yes. To the point where I don’t even have some hilariously sarcastic to say in this post. I’ll be 28 in 11 days and I’m having one of those “what’s missing?” moments. I’m entirely grateful for the life I have and how people have been responding to the blog as of late, so it’s surely not from a place of ungratefulness. It’s more from a place of “how can I be better?”

That being said, for my birthday, I’m getting myself dance classes. I’ve been dancing since I was 4. Like ballet, tap, jazz…the whole nine. But I literally haven’t really danced in a studio for 4 years. That ends now. I love blogging, but before I knew that I wanted to even be anything I knew that I wanted to dance while I was doing it. It makes me feel alive and powerful and invincible. Yes, sort of like a superhero. It makes me feel balanced. And in the midst of doing magazine editorials, blogging conferences and outfit posts plus working a 9 to 5 and being my husband’s wife, I NEED to dance. It is without a doubt one of the few things in the world that makes me feel like the larger version of myself.

I realized that if I was going to be preaching “live what you love” I ought to practice what I preach. So, I’m going to dance like no one’s watching. Give me a few months though, and maybe you guys will be watching me two step.

Didn’t mean to get all Ilyanla Vanzant on you. Please note that while I am off balance, I wore two different earrings on purpose. I promise.

TOP: Hanes | JEANS: Charlotte Russe (old) | BOOTIES: RACHEL Rachel Roy | SUNNIES: Ray Ban c/o Sunglass Hut | BRACELETS: Sherane’s Vintage Closet + Miss B Fab x Mattieologie | NECKLACE: Kanon vodka monocle souvenir

Still obsessed with these booties. I know I’m going to have to put them up this week because of the weather. But I JUST CAN’T HELP IT. Oh yeah, exactly 3 weeks until Mattiepalooza + the Style Bloggers of Color conference. Are you coming?

  1. super cute casual look! i love the boots…

i wish i could attend the event. can’t wait to hear about it.

  2. Good for you! I recently decided to do something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time – this fall I’m heading back to school to start a sign language interpreter program. I’ve always wanted to become fluent, so no better time than now!

  3. I completely understand where you are coming from. I turned 28 in January and have been winding through that maze ever since. Dance classes are amazing! I wish we had some good studios here but since you are in Atlanta the only and best dance studio is Dance 411 Studios!!! I used to work and take classes there when I was in Atlanta! They are amazing!!!! Right off Moreland Ave. you will definitely get the best classes you can find in every genre!!!! Good luck!!!

  4. As a former dancer myself I totally know what you mean. I’ve been saying I’m going to take a ballet class for sometime now, but I really need to make it happen!

I love this chill look! As much as I love the bold colors and extra frouf (so not a word) of dresses, skirts, and mixed prints, I’m a jeans, tee, and pair of pumps girl at heart.

Cheers to you regaining balance Mattie darling!

  5. I’m glad you’re getting back to what you know & I’m pretty sure you will find your balance in every step. Love the nails & pretty pink polish!
