Mattie Memo: 2011 SAG Awards

At the 2011 SAG Awards, the stars weren’t afraid to wear color. The beauty efforts – as far as hair & make up were concerned – were much better than those at the Globes and because it was the SAGs people weren’t afraid of having fun. I will say however, that in comparison to last year’s awards (do you remember Kate Hudson in that white hot Pucci gown?!) I was a bit underwhelmed.

Kim Kardashian’s look in Marchesa wasn’t what I expected. The dress was gorgeous of course, but her hair and makeup needed a pop that I just didn’t get. Very underwhelmed.

And while Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton gown was a valiant effort, she too fell flat when it came to hair and make up. Which makes me ask – why is everyone so afraid of doing their hair?

Mila Kunis rocked it out in an Alexander McQueen gown which was gorgeous and full of life. Again, though, a messy chignon wouldn’t have killed her stylist and it would have pulled the look together.

Unlike the Globes, I was incredibly pleased with Natalie Portman’s look. She looked marvelous in her strapless Azzaro Jungle gown and she seemed to be glowing. Her stylist needs to stick with elegant and simple moving forward. It works.

Without question, Amy Adams in the white Herve L. Leroux halterneck dress gave me life – and I always appreciate when people wear white well. Her body looked amazing. I’m not a fan of the lackluster ponytail but at least she didn’t wear her hair down.

I’m the girliest girl of them all, but what did we think about Angie Harmon’s feathered princess gown by Monique Lhuillier? I feel like it was a bit much for the SAGs but at the same time she couldn’t have gotten away with it anywhere else. (Globes? No. Oscars? ABSOLUTELY NOT.) But I think what I liked about it was that she enjoyed it and you could tell she was confident wearing it and confidence is the best accessory.

Hands down though, my best dressed award goes to Mad Men actress January Jones in her glamorous, old Hollywood-esque Carolina Herrera gown. Love the print, the contrast of colors and her hair & makeup were perfection. I was very pleased with her overall look and I’m ecstatic to see what she will wear to the Oscars.

I didn’t get a chance to really watch the red carpet or the show. What are your thoughts? Who was best dressed in your eyes? Leave your comments and let me know!
