Last year, The Hills star Lauren Conrad got folks up in a frenzy with her multi colored nails caught in a paparazzi pic. Many people liked it and even a few LOVED it but I didn’t see anybody rock it. Now, I’m not saying that because LC did, we all should but I thought it would become a great trend that many would follow. I know I did at least. I call this look “ombre nails” because the color is supposed to go from lightest to darkest starting with you thumb (or vice versa with the pinky like Lauren.) I tried this look last summer with purple and it was quite fantastic. I’m bringing it back for the spring. Just find four like colors (pink to red, gray to black, etc.) and create a gradient look. Kate Bosworth blew me away with this look at the Montblanc Charity event the Weinstein Company held during Oscar weekend for UNICEF. The actress wore a kaleidoscope of a Peter Pilotto dress with some fantastic satin nude pumps. Here’s why this works: it’s daring and unexpected while still effortless. The silhouette isn’t typical but when all is said and done it still has the appeal of a classic sheath dress. And let’s face it – color always gets our attention. And that’s exactly what Kate did.

Actress Amy Smart brought spring with her to an Oscar event last night when she donned a floral print strapless dress. With her hair pulled back, a rouge mouth and some gray peep toe pumps this look was really smart.

Solange Knowles – DJ, singer, songwriter, trendsetter and mother – is one of the new faces of Rimmel London.

The mega beauty brand has brought Solange along with actress Zooey Deschanel and model Alejandra Ramos Munoz as the new faces of their company as they plan to reach out to many international markets in the future.

“Zooey, Solange and Alejandra each bring a distinct look and personality to Rimmel London, expanding the brand’s visibility and strengthening Coty’s global color platform,” stated Bernd Beetz, Coty’s chief executive officer. (WWD)

Yesterday I was so blessed to go see Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. speak at Georgia State University’s Rialto. It was truly awesome. If you’re unfamiliar with Dr. Gates, you may recognize him from African American Lives and Faces of America. He’s worked with everyone from Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock, Eva Longoria Parker and Meryl Streep.

Dr. Gates specializes in genealogy and has had a particular interest in it since he was nine. He explained in his speech that he wanted to do what Alex Haley (the author of Roots) did for himself. And so that’s just what he did. And he went on to do it for several other incredibly influential people as well.

Dr. Gates is also looking to revolutionize this science of genealogy and take it to inner city kids so they too can know where they come from, who they are and still master science and history.

“Your favorite subject is yourself,” Gates explained. “What kid wouldn’t want to learn about science and history through themselves?”

I think this was hands down one of my greatest experiences ever. I got witness someone, who my kids will read about in history books and watch on Black History Month specials, speak and actually teach me something. Amazing. Inspiring.

Two years ago, John Galliano launched his first fragrance as an eau de parfum and this spring he will release the fragrance as a eau de toilette. His team at his at Givaudan has tweeked the scent making more appealing to the masses and have applied some changes to the bottle. The fragrance is set to be released next month in Europe, the Middle East and Asia and should hit the U.S. shelves next spring.

The success of Kim Kardashian’s new fragrance has been mega to say the least. The socialite made a stop in Vegas at Tao to celebrate the release of her self-titled perfume.

The star recently said:

“I think my dream job would be to work at Sephora,” she told PEOPLE magazine during her Vegas launch. “If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing now I would be a makeup artist or work at Sephora.”
