FBFF: Balancing It All Out

Today Katy asks: Finding the balance – I think this is one of the hardest things for us as bloggers to deal with. How do you do it all and still live, work and play as you should?

1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does blogging fall?

Well, it’s about third on my list. I’m blessed to be in a situation where I can just work on becoming a professional blogger. I have lots to learn but thanks to groups like this and resources like IFB, I am able to do so. Growing up, I always anticipated that I would be a writer, but then this awesome thing called the internet came along and I changed my mind. Last year, I made the decision to become a professional blogger. Just like anything else it takes hard work and time. But so far, it’s been well worth it.

2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you do have to be as productive as possible?

Writing things down. When you fail to plan you plan to fail. I usually try to write posts in advance, decide on topics and guests for my online radio show a couple of weeks in advance. You can’t always do that for the blog especially you write fashion or beauty news, but since my site is based on what I like and think, I can usually do things in advance.

3. Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or more time efficient?

Saving posts as drafts. As I type, I’m actually doing this post a few days in advance. It can really make a difference. Also if the pictures to event or red carpet hit the web before the next day, I’ll go ahead and save/edit those. Anything that you can do ahead of time is always helpful. Always.

4. Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps you plan ahead?

You know what? I don’t. And I desperate need it. And I know I do. (That makes it worse.) LOL. Someone recently brought up The Editor which seems great and I also have a few sites that give great tips on organizing your blog & generating ideas. I know for someone like me, if I see it written down I will more than like do it so I need to get it together and get an editorial calendar.

5. If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for your blog that you aren’t doing now?

A lot more video. It seems like there isn’t enough time in the day to get all your posting done, correspond back to your contacts and then go film. However, that’s what I’d like to do so I’ll have to make the time. It’s amazing what all you can accomplish if you wake up about 2 hours early. I also would like to do more outfit posts. Eventually on a daily basis. I have a point and shoot camera right now and it only does so much. I would like to get an SLR to get great, quality photos. So, overall just more and better media on my site!

  1. I loved reading through your answers. Congratulations on taking the steps to become a professional blogger! That’s such a brave and exciting venture. I completely agree about writing things in advance; more often I come up with my ideas in advance but put off writing the actual posts. That’s something I’m hoping to work on. I figure once I get started writing posts out early it should set me on a decent roll. (:
