Since, I’ve gotten back from NYC I’ve been actually eating breakfast but getting up a bit late. However, I must say I am thoroughly rested and Hubs has treated me like a queen (more so than usual) since I got back. He got me the prettiest pink roses — my FAVORITE!

I’m so excited about the things coming up, especially in September!!!! (Can anyone say New York Fashion Week?!) Mattieologie is growing and I was ecstatic to hear my friends and associates in NYC love the site. So, I’m gonna keep on keeping on. All right. I’m off to post.

XOXO.

Been in the airport all day. Thought I could score an earlier via stand by but because NYC flights have been cancelled in ATL for the last two days due to weather, that was unsuccessful. So I had to take my afternoon flight with a layover.

Randomly, my layover was in Akron, OH. Funny since “The Decision” was made recently. I’m even scared to type Lebron James’ name. Or even tell them my last name is James. Dah, well. They’ll be all right. It is safe to say though that Akron is VERY different than Atlanta. They only have NINE gates in their airport…EXACTLY.

In other news, my Blackberry is slowly breaking down. The “2/e” button is out of commission. Which makes it very hard to text, email and tweet. I’ve just been copying & pasting the “e.” Sad. I know. I need to have it thoroughly cleaned. I think the dirt is breaking it down. I know. Gross.

Would you look at that? I think I’m lifecasting folks. (I told you I would.)

Hello!

So…much has been going on. Like a lot. And it’s funny because I truly believe that there is a lack of Mattie here on MATTIEologie. And so, I’ve decided to fill you guys in and give everyone a larger peek into my life. So, if you don’t care for me, naturally this wouldn’t be the place for you. (Hence, the name.)

Well, it’s already that time. It’s been a year since I’ve become Miss Liberia GA and Miss Liberia USA. On Sunday, I gave up the crown to a lovely young lady named Mahja. She’s fabulous and I’ll be mentioning her more I’m sure. But I’ve got to admit, it was a pretty bittersweet moment. And come, July 23 someone else will be the reigning Miss Liberia USA. I’m sad, yet incredibly grateful for this experience and opportunity. As they say, “Every end is a new beginning.”

A lot of other FANTASTIC things have been happening. I’ve been writing fashion and lifestyle for SINGERSROOM – which I love. It’s been giving me much room to grow as a writer. I’ve also been regularly freelancing for ROLLING OUT. I’m very happy about this because I’m really becoming the person I’ve always wanted to be. (Someone who got paid for writing what they think.) It’s something I’ve been meaning to share, but didn’t want to come off as “bragging” I guess.

I got a lot of slack for my MARRIED AT 25 post. Truthfully, I lost some friends over it as well. But as it turns out sometimes good things fall apart so greater things can come together. I’ve learned as a writer that not everyone is going to agree with you and some people disagree harder than others. My intention as a writer is never to offend, but to always be honest with how I feel about what I write.

So, sure I’m losing the crown and I’ve lost some friends, but the last thing I’m about to do is feel sorry for myself. I am tremendously blessed and if that’s bragging well then…I don’t know what to tell you. But writing how I feel is therapy and I refuse to hide how I feel about something. I am unapologetically being more open from now on when it comes to the site. It helps me grow, it helps me think and this is just how I get a lot off my chest.

With my new writing gigs, I’ve been slightly overwhelmed – in a good, progressive way – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m looking for more gigs honestly and really trying to put my stamp on the new media world. But I am growing and with growth comes growing pains and I’ve definitely had my share. So here I am. A writer. I’m published – in print and on the web and that has always been the goal.

I’m headed to NYC for Africa Fashion Week in a few days and I cannot wait! It’s going to be great. I’ve got some other good news that I can’t share just yet. But I just wanted to let all of you know, I appreciate you. I know I’ve been neglecting the site a bit, but know I haven’t forgot about you. I’m here. I’ve just been busy growing as of lately…

I’ve been going back and forth with myself about rocking my natural hair. About 8 weeks ago, I chopped off all the relaxed – and severly damaged – part of my hair and decided it was time to go natural. I haven’t been wearing it out – thanks to weaves and wigs – but quite frankly it’s just too hot for that. I saw my parents last weekend and they’re rooting for me to rock my short hair. As my Dad said, “I can’t see your face, and you have a good face.” My hair is about the length of Kelis’ in her new video, “Fourth of July.” I’ve also been debating color, because black – according to family & friends – is too daunting for my complexion. At least, all year round. I’m really leaning towards the color Kelis has, this reddish brown. Seems like an appropriate choice for summer. Kelis by the way? STUNNING. I’m hoping I can at least look half as good if I do make this choice.

This weekend I got the chance to interview The Dream and chat with him about his new album, Love King, which drops June 29. This past Sunday, Moet spolied a handful of us at The Rose Lounge listening session held at AltoRex Rooftop Lounge where we indulged in Rose’ and The Dream’s new album. The likes of Daron Jones of 112, Brian Michael Cox and Gucci Mane all stopped by to show support. When I spoke to The Dream he explained that this album was much more honest than the first two and why artist honesty is important.

“You know, we pick Kanye apart on the crazy things that he does and says because we can’t get into his mind and see how he thinks a certain way. And sometimes when we’re behind the scenes, even if it’s not the right thing to do, we need to say if the Grammys looked me over…that’s where the outburst comes from and that’s where the true artist honesty starts to come out.”
I’m a sucker for brunch so last week, when Atlanta personality and blogger TAMI REED invited me to her blogger’s luncheon, I was there with bells on.
So the luncheon was held at Cafe Decuir, owned by David Decuir (of DECUIR CATERING) who made the. most. delicious. spinach. dip. EVER. The food and company were amazing. Bloggers/writers like KIMBERLY WALKER, GYANT and FILTHY CHIC were all in attendance. There was the cutest little 10 year old boy there, Cypress, who is a rapper and is actually pretty good. He was our entertainment. The luncheon was sponsored by Victoria’s Secret – how great is that? Free food, free VS and good company. Loves it!

Pink. Cupcakes. Yes.

David really made it hard for us to contain ourselves with this lemon pound cakes. (And it was pink!)

This dip was so amazing, I went back three time. Go ahead. Judge me. At least I had the audacity to eat salad.

The mango tea – yes, that’s right. That’s pieces of mango in there. – was ridiculously good.
