I wasn’t the coolest kid in sixth grade.
Now that I look back at it, no one I knew at the time really was. I didn’t know what to wear. I didn’t have the luxury of having an older, cooler sister to lead me to popularity like my sister did. And by that time, even though I had emulated my mother up to then, she just wasn’t cool enough for me to take style advice from. After all, she was grown up which meant she was old.
Luckily, I turned to my then fashion bible: Teen Magazine.
It told you what to wear, how you should wear your hair in any season and how to get boys to pay attention to you. For a kid who moved every two years until she was 14, magazines inevitably became my best friends.
obsession love stared about 15 years ago and hasn’t stopped in the slightest. Anyone who knows me can clearly – without a doubt – tell you how much I love fashion magazines. I subscribe to about 5 or 6 of them and then buy even more throughout the year. (Thank the Lord for subscriptions.) From ELLE to People StyleWatch, I just can’t get enough. Check out my “Mattiementary” on how I really feel about fashion mags and how they compare to the digital world of blogging.
