Everybody’s favorite designer made an addition to his brand recently. No, Marc Jacobs didn’t open up another clothing store in West Village – he has six already. Instead, he opened up Bookmarc – a bookstore. Now, can you go find best sellers and the quintessential self help book there? More than likely not, unless the author is a friend of Marc’s. But you can certainly find books on art, fashion and photography. Bookmarc, which was once Biography Bookshop, is caddy corner the Marc Jacobs women’s collection store on Bleecker St. in NYC where in the West Village, Marc has built a mini empire.
According to Marc Jacobs president Robert Duffy, “We’ve always had a mix of books in our stores, so it was my dream to eventually one day have a bookstore on Bleecker Street.” A master of branding, Jacobs has customized notebooks, colored pencils and Sharpies all available at the new bookstore. And if that’s not enough, there’s also CD’s and vinyl records for sale as well. With Bookmarc making it the seventh piece of real estate under the Marc Jacobs brand, it’s evident that business is booming.
What recession?
