Mattie Movie: 12 Things I Learned From ‘Eat, Pray, Love’

Yesterday, I finally got to see the movie, Eat, Pray, Love. If you’re a woman with a pulse, you should go see this movie. It’s incredibly enlightening and encouraging and truly makes you realize that the only person that can validate your happiness is yourself. What makes you happy is up to you and anything that you want in life can be yours once you make the decision. It gives you great perspective on life, love, societal views on what is “acceptable” and what’s not. Very smart movie. It’s not necessarily happy go lucky or even happily ever after. But it is real enough to make you realize that everything will be fine. So don’t stress it. I’ve realized that 80% of the stuff we get caught up in is not life. It’s not living. Living is experiencing candidly, willingly and knowingly while adding and contributing to your happiness. And if you’re not living life then you’re not doing something right. If the end result is not happiness, then it is without purpose. (MATTIE MEMO: Let’s be clear. My happiness is not your happiness. So don’t let mine offend yours.) I’m now very interested in reading the book. Below are 12 things I learned from the movie based on the direct quotes and lines. Thought I’d share.

“Having a baby is like having a face tattoo. You wanna be fully committed.”

“It’s unnerving when a stranger sees you more clear than you see yourself.”

“Everything falls apart. The only thing in life that is permanent is family.”

“Americans know entertainment. Not pleasure.”

“I’m not interested in being obese, I’m just through with the guilt.”

“Ruin is a gift. Ruin makes the world go ’round.”

“You don’t have to make children or be married to have a family.”

“You have to select your thought like you select your clothes everyday. That’s a power that you cultivate.”

“God dwells within you.”

“When you lose balance, you lose power.”

“The only way to heal is to trust.”

“What you are is not what you do.”
