Beauty expert Rebekah George shares the latest beauty trends for the spring and summer.
As a former beauty editor of many women’s magazines, Rebekah knows a thing or two about the latest beauty trends. You’ve seen her on everything from The Early Show to Good Morning America. Now, Rebekah (an expert on everything from skin care to Jimmy Choo) gives us the scoop on what to do as we come into the spring and summer season.
How are this spring’s hottest make up trends different from last spring?
RG: Color is back in a big way! Bursting reds and fiery oranges – vermilion, blood orange, persimmon, salmon, cantaloupe and coral – think summer sunset. While we did see color last summer, it was softer, more subdued shades like gray, lilac, and baby pink. We’re feeling more confident as a country, and the bolder makeup reflects that women are comfortable making a statement.
What are top 3 go to products for this season?
RG: 1. CoverGirl Boundless Color Nail Polish, a gorgeous collection of rich, vibrant basecoats and sparkly topcoats. I think summer is about having fun and these allow you to feel like a kid again, but still look sophisticated. The best part is you can mix and match to create your own unique look.
2. Secret Smooth Effects Deodorant, it allows you to shave less often (and of course smell fresh and clean!). I love that so you can feel even more confident when you’re wearing a sleeveless dress or shirt!
3. Goody Spin Pin, this little tool helps you create a professional-looking twist. Such a plus during the warmer months because I say stash your blowdryer until September. Let your hair air dry and throw it back in the Spin Pin and it’ll look like you spent hours getting it done.
Many people are going green and natural. What’s the most popular organic/eco friendly product?
RG: Right now, beauty and fashion pros are excited to try H&M’s new skin care line made with certified organic ingredients. The line, ranging from lip balms to body lotion contain healthy ingredients like organic apple juice and almond seed oil and are in recycled packaging. And…drumroll, they are all under $8! So you have enough money to buy a new outfit while you’re at the store!
What product/regimen should we all let go as we “spring” forward?
RG: It might sound like the same old, same old, but don’t use a heavy foundation in the summer. Allow your skin to really shine through and let your shadow, blush, or gloss make the statement. I do this by taking a tinted moisturizer or mixing a little liquid bronzer in with my day lotion – warm it up in your hands – and then gently press on to your skin. Your hands will work like a “hot tool” and help the tinted moisturizer blend into your skin for a more natural look. Definitely spot treat, too. Don’t feel like you have to cover every square inch on your face.
What’s the one beauty regimen a girl should always live by?
RG: Take care of your skin. Skin is in and it’s not ever going out of style. I say if your skin (aka your canvas) isn’t taken well care of, it doesn’t matter how much makeup you pack on. Great skin is also a confidence booster. We all have skin issues – be it acne or scars – but when you take care of your complexion by using the right skin products and wearing sunscreen, you will glow! Make sure to keep the skin on your legs in great shape as well so you can show them off in a cute miniskirt or bikini! I prefer Venus Embrace with five blades for a close shave, and a protective Ribbon of Moisture which helps protect against nicks and cuts.
