A couple of days ago a friend of mine tweeted, “What are you doing today to work towards your goals?” It really made me stop and think for a minute. Three years ago had I been applying my time and efforts into Mattieologie like I am now, I would be much further professionally.

Many people work a 9 to 5. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Unless, your 9 to 5 is NOT a stepping stone to your overall goal. Then you have the other side of it: people who start “businesses” and expect immediate results. It just doesn’t work like that. Not in the real world. And if you think about people who grasped success immediately (MySpace music stars, reality stars) – just as fast they went up they came down. I don’t know about you but that’s NOT the kind of success I’m trying to have.

If your sole motive is money, you’re in for a rude awakening as well. (I get it – folks have to eat and mortgages have to be paid.) But you have to LOVE what you do. If you love to see people have a good time, then promoting is for you. If you love to write, maybe blogging is for you. But you need to love something enough to where you’re willing to do it for free. I feel like everyone has something that they enjoy that much. If you “don’t” you’re not digging deep enough. Even if you enjoy shopping, then maybe your future is in buying. Once you figure out what that is and BUST YOUR BUTT, that’s when the accolades starts to come. You get out, what you put in. It’s not rocket science.

Sooooooooo many of us young people, are starting businesses and tapping into our entrepreneurial skills. Out of that group though, I think a lot of people are looking for a get rich quick scheme and move on to the next idea if they haven’t made $1 million in their first year. Step back and look at the big picture. What’s your one-year plan? Two-year plan? 5-year plan? 10 year old? What’s the point of where you are if you don’t know where you’re going? HAVE VISION people!

Isn’t your dream good enough, worthwhile enough to invest in? Kobe didn’t come out just winning rings. Beyonce did not start out the best. Even, President Obama started out at a community college. Continuously, working towards a common goal will always get you further ahead.
